About me

Hi, I’m Taylor Semchuk! (she/her) International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Holistic Sleep Coach & Mother

I live on the traditional and unceded lands of the Lək̓ʷəŋən peoples, and the Songhees, Esquimalt, and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.

I have always dreamed of working in a healthcare setting, but was struggling to find the right fit. When I had my son, my eyes were opened to the reality of breastfeeding and infant sleep. I completed a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist course while on maternity leave, sneaking lessons in during contact naps. In 2024 I quit my full-time job working with cancer patients to fully pursue a career in lactation. I have had two incredible IBCLC mentors who guided me with over 500 hours of practical, hand-on experience. I am lucky to now call them my colleagues and we work together on the Magnolia Infant Feeding Team at Rosehips Midwifery. Along the way I’ve found my other passion - infant and toddler sleep.

My philosophy is to empower parents to be responsive and attuned to their child’s needs. I will never recommend adherence to strict schedules that go against a child’s nature, and I do not support any methods of controlled crying or cry-it-out sleep training. Babies are not bodybuilders, they don’t need to be trained. My approach is gentle and responsive, and looks at the whole family as a unit. When one part of the unit is fractured, the whole unit suffers.

My purpose is to provide accurate, evidence-based care in a way that meets parents where they are at. I am proud to support any families including those that identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community. I use a holistic approach to both lactation and sleep, and understand that there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach when it comes to you and your baby.
